We needed to use Mike as part of our backyard project, as he is the main landscape contractor our pool contractor (Jim Chandler in Penryn) uses. Mike and his team did an adequate job of installing the infrastructure of irrigation hoses, and the concrete pour and other parts of the project went pretty well. He is a very nice man, easygoing, and while there a few relatively minor things the inspector picked up, they were handled easily.

We were disappointed when a few weeks after the concrete pour, we got a huge crack across a very visible piece near the hot tub. Mike's response was that while they do what they can, concrete will just crack, and it can be that soon. After spending $11,000 on the concrete, we just weren't convinced, and from what we read that is not necessarily the case so soon after a pour.

Mike also bid some other parts of the project very, very high and we ended up using the contractor we have used for many years instead. For example, his fence, sod, vegetable bed quotes were 20-50% higher than our guy, and so we did not use him for those pieces.

He did install four landscape lights for us in the front yard when he redid the area that got destroyed with the project, and now, nine months later, three of the four are not working.

Our other landscape contractor took a look at them, and said they were basically pretty inexpensive Malibu lights with a number of potential connection issues. We've been told that a year is a pretty standard warranty for this kind of work, but our emails and texts have not had a response.

Sorry, but if I was using Jim for our pool contractor again, I would absolutely insist on having him work with our landscape contractor. I would have rated Mike "average" as being overpriced and having some minor issues around the work is not that big a deal, but not responding to a situation where 75% of the lights installed are not working is not, in our book, acceptable.
